Information for Reviewers

If you want to join our panel of reviewers, please send an e-mail with your name and full contact details to jryan@irishbookreview.com. Please indicate your principal areas of interest, and list any of your recent reviews that have been published.

Reviews will range from approximately 300 words to 1500 words for major books. In general, the market we are aiming for is non-academic, but intelligent, lively and eloquent, and we hope our reviews will reflect this! Lengthier reviews can be expanded out into short essays, for example, giving your own “take” on the subject matter of the book in question. However, please stick to the word count we ask for. In terms of other reviewing guidelines, there are a few obvious points: don’t libel anybody, don’t get personal, stay relevant to the book, keep extracts short and accurate, don’t use footnotes, and be prepared to be edited! Also, please include a one-sentence by-line/biographical note about yourself at the end of your submission. Please also include the publication details (publisher, price, ISBN, publication date, page extent), as listed on the press release, at the end of the review.
